Students of Torah increase peace in the world, as it is said: “And all your children shall be taught of the Eternal, and great shall be the peace of your children” Babylonian Talmud Berakhot 64a
Temple Kol Ami is deeply proud of the strength our students draw from our B’nai Mitzvah program. Our students learn to lead prayer with confidence, chant Torah, pursue a mitzvah project, and offer a teaching to the congregation on their Torah portion.
Our students take an active role in their Bar or Bat Mitzvah service. In order to get to this important life-cycle event in your life, your B’nai Mitzvah 7th grade year will include:
- One year out of your B’nai Mitzvah you will have a one-on-one personalized meeting with the clergy
- 2 classes (in the 4 of our Shevet Gam Yachad program)
- 24 30-minute lessons one-on-one with a tutor
- Regular meetings with the clergy before your B'nai Mitzvah service
- Mitzvah project

Past Mitzvah projects have included volunteering at animal shelters or food banks, environmental projects, city of Detroit initiatives, helping with sports leagues for youth, and many more.
We prepare our B’nai Mitzvah students through our Shevet Gam Yachad program. This multi-year program is for the student and their parents to help prepare and gain deeper spirituality and meaning in their service.
Financial Responsibilities
The Bar or Bat Mitzvah family must be current in all their financial commitments to the congregation. We always work with our families to ensure dignity and respect. Please contact the Temple if you have any questions or concerns regarding your financial commitment.
